Operations & Fleet Supervisor {Talent Management}

Job Title: Operations & Fleet Supervisor — Uganda (Domestic & Cross-Border Cargo Logistics)

Location: Kampala (with oversight of operations across Uganda and cross-border routes)

About Us

Buconic Logistics is a growing cargo-logistics and transport company providing reliable domestic delivery and cross-border freight services across Uganda and neighbouring countries. As we scale operations, we are looking for a competent and dependable Operations & Fleet Supervisor to oversee fleet performance, ensure efficient logistics operations, maintain compliance and safety standards, and support smooth coordination between drivers, operations staff, and clients.

Role Overview

The Operations & Fleet Supervisor will manage and supervise the company’s fleet and day-to-day logistics operations. This includes scheduling, dispatching, route planning, vehicle maintenance and safety compliance, driver supervision, and coordination of deliveries — both domestically and across borders. The role ensures that Buconic Logistics delivers on its commitment to timely, safe, and cost-effective cargo movement, while maintaining high service quality and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Vehicle Management

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of company fleet vehicles: scheduling regular maintenance, inspections, and servicing, ensuring vehicles remain road-worthy, reliable and compliant with regulations.
  • Manage vehicle procurement recommendations, replacement or disposal decisions, in line with operational needs and budget.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly licensed, registered, insured, and meet all legal and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, usage, fuel consumption, repairs, and related expenses.

Operations & Delivery Management

  • Plan, schedule and dispatch deliveries — both domestic and cross-border — ensuring efficient routing and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor cargo in transit, track vehicle locations (where applicable), and manage delivery status reporting.
  • Liaise closely with drivers, operations staff, clients, and border-crossing contacts to coordinate pickups, drop-offs, and paperwork for cross-border transport (customs, permits, etc.).
  • Handle any operational issues — delays, breakdowns, accidents, or compliance problems — by coordinating with drivers, maintenance teams and management; institute corrective actions and record-keeping.

Driver & Staff Supervision

  • Supervise and manage drivers and fleet-related staff: assign routes, monitor performance, ensure adherence to schedules and safety regulations.
  • Provide orientation/training for new drivers and staff on company policies, safety protocols, cargo handling, cross-border procedures, and maintenance routines.
  • Enforce compliance with company policies, traffic laws, transport regulations, and safety standards.

Planning, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and implement fleet management policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance schedules, and operational guidelines appropriate for domestic and cross-border logistics.
  • Monitor fleet performance metrics (vehicle uptime, fuel usage, route efficiency, delivery times, driver performance) and prepare regular reports to management.
  • Provide recommendations for improving fleet utilization, reducing costs, enhancing safety, and optimizing operations.
  • Assist in budgeting for fleet expenses (maintenance, fuel, repairs, new acquisitions), and help manage resource allocation for fleet operations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or Diploma) in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Transport Management, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience in transport/fleet operations.
  •  Proven experience (ideally 3+ years) in fleet management, transport operations supervision, or logistics — preferably in freight forwarding, cargo transport, or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of fleet operations: vehicle maintenance, transport regulations (domestic and cross-border), safety standards, route planning and dispatching.
  • Leadership, team supervision, and people-management skills — ability to manage drivers and operations staff, coordinate activities and enforce standards.
  • Organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask — manage fleet schedules, maintenance, deliveries, documentation and reporting simultaneously.
  • Good communication (verbal and written) skills to liaise with drivers, clients, border/customs officials (for cross-border shipments), operations and management.
  • Basic computer literacy — familiar with spreadsheets, fleet/transport management software or ability to quickly learn relevant systems.
  • Problem-solving mindset, ability to react promptly to operational challenges (breakdowns, route issues, delivery delays, compliance problems) and manage corrective actions.

Preferred / Additional Competencies

  • Experience with cross-border cargo transport — familiarity with required documentation, customs procedures, border regulations and regional transport laws.

Basic mechanical knowledge or ability to liaise effectively with maintenance/repair teams to coordinate timely vehicle servicing.

  • Experience using fleet management software, GPS tracking, dispatch systems, telematics or other digital tools to monitor and optimize fleet operations.
  •  Familiarity with cost-control, budget planning, and resource allocation — especially in a logistics environment.
  • High commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and service quality; ability to instill a safety-first culture among drivers and staff.

What We Offer

  • A key supervisory role in a growing logistics company, with responsibility over fleet and operations — opportunity to shape and contribute to company growth and standards.
  •  Competitive salary and allowances, especially considering the demands of cross-border logistics.
  • Exposure to both domestic and international freight operations, offering valuable experience in fleet management and cross-border logistics.
  • Opportunity for career growth — potential to advance into senior operations or transport management roles as the company expands.
  • Supportive team environment with dedicated operations, maintenance, and administrative staff.
